What to Expect After CryoPen Treatment
It’s normal for the skin to go through several visible changes as it heals. Below is a breakdown of common reactions based on the type of lesion treated:
Blistering: This can happen after cryotherapy, though CryoPen significantly reduces the risk by only targeting the intended tissue. If a blister forms, do not pop it. If it bursts on its own and begins to weep, allow it to dry naturally and avoid covering the area.
Skin Tags: Typically turn black at the base and fall off within 1 to 6 weeks. Larger tags (over 3mm) may require a second session.
Warts & Verrucae: May need a follow-up treatment after 4 weeks. No special aftercare is needed unless blistering occurs.
Milia: These often flatten and disappear without issue. Follow standard blister care if needed.
Pigmentation & Cherry Angiomas: These may appear swollen, similar to a bee sting. Redness typically fades within a few hours.
Crusting: All treated lesions will darken within 24 hours and form a crust. Do not pick the crust. Let it fall away naturally to avoid delaying healing or causing irritation.
Pink, Shiny Skin: Once the crust falls, the new skin underneath will look pink and shiny. This is not scarring — it will re-pigment over time.
Itching: A normal reaction caused by histamine release. It may last between 10 to 60 minutes post-treatment.
Alopecia: Temporary hair loss may occur in areas that are normally covered with hair.
Delayed Healing: If the area has not healed by 6 weeks, please contact your GP or dermatologist. Let us know as well so we can assist.
Aftercare Guidelines
To support healthy healing and avoid irritation, follow these aftercare steps:
Do not pick the area at any stage. If a scab comes off early, healing may take longer but treatment can still be effective.
Apply SPF 50 to pigmentation removal areas daily until skin tone returns to normal. This can take up to 8 weeks.
Avoid makeup, deodorant, and perfume on the treated area for at least 24 hours.
Keep the area dry during the first 24 hours post-treatment.
If crusting is still present after 4 weeks, wait for it to fall away on its own before booking a follow-up session or contacting the clinic.
Tanned skin will lose its colour in the treated area but will return to its natural tone over time.
