Normal Symptoms
The following symptoms are very common after lip filler and should settle within a few days:
Swelling: Most clients experience swelling post-treatment. This is expected. Only be concerned if the swelling is severe or accompanied by pain or symptoms listed under Vascular Occlusion.
Bruising: Some clients bruise more than others. Bruising is completely normal and will fade with time.
Lumpiness or Soreness: Your lips might feel uneven or tender. You can gently massage them from day 3 onwards. Use a clean cold compress and take paracetamol if needed.
Cold Sore Outbreaks: If you're prone to cold sores, treatment may trigger an outbreak. If you've never had one, this is unlikely.
These symptoms are usually mild and temporary.
Lip Massage Instructions
Gentle daily massage from day 3 post-treatment can improve evenness and shape. Follow the steps below using clean hands and light pressure:
Corner Sweep: Place one finger at the lip corner and your thumb at the opposite corner. Gently press and sweep outward.
Cupid’s Bow Press: With two fingers on the centre of the top lip, press outward toward each corner.
Upper Lip Stretch: Place two fingers above your top lip and gently push down and out with your thumbs.
How to Check Capillary Refill Time
Capillary refill helps confirm healthy blood flow to the area.
Pinch both lips gently for five seconds.
Release and watch the colour return.
Normal refill time is under 2 seconds.
If the skin remains pale or slow to regain colour, contact us immediately.
Know the Signs: Vascular Occlusion
This is a rare but serious complication. Immediate action is essential. Watch for:
Pallor: A pale, cold area of skin with delayed capillary refill (often within 30 minutes of treatment).
Livedo Reticularis: Mottled or net-like skin pattern.
Pustular Phase: Skin breakdown with blister-like spots, usually several days after.
Necrosis can occur 4 to 7 days after treatment if untreated.
Please contact us immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.
